Steps for upgrading from Campaign 8.5 or 8.6
Upgrading from Campaign 8.5.x or 8.6.x is considered an in-place upgrade. Be sure to install the new version into the same directory as your current installation. When you do so, Campaign detects that you are upgrading to a newer version.
Upgrading Campaign involves two main steps: You run the installer in upgrade mode, then you run the acUpgradeTool. The following table provides complete instructions.

You must upgrade Marketing Platform before you can upgrade Campaign.
Back up Campaign.
For eMessage only.
Stop the Campaign listener and utilities, and undeploy Campaign.
For AIX® only.
Redeploy Campaign in the web application server, then restart the Campaign listener.
For eMessage only: Restart the Response and Contact Tracker
Run the Campaign 9.x upgrade tool (acUpgradeTool).
Export configuration settings (optional)
Back up Campaign
Stop the Response and Contact Tracker
Undeploy Campaign
Unload unused files from memory (AIX only)
Run the Campaign installer in upgrade mode
Redeploy Campaign in the web application server
Restart the Response and Contact Tracker
Review SQL upgrade script and modify, if necessary
Set environment variables for Campaign 9.x
Gather information required to run the upgrade tool
